Alan Lawton MBE

It is with great sadness that the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (AoBBA) learns of the passing of our Honorary Member Alan Lawton MBE. Alan was a member of AoBBA for many years and has served with distinction until retiring from adjudicating in 2014.

Alan will be remembered not only as an exceptional cornet player with Fairey Band, but also as their resident conductor for a period. In addition, Alan had considerable success as musical director with Poynton Band and acting as professional conductor to numerous other bands in the UK.

Alan’s adjudicating career began in 1985 and his professional approach was soon recognised by contest promoters as he was noted as one of the country’s premier judges.

The association wish to offer their condolences to Alan’s family for their loss.
