The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (AoBBA) has announced that Matthew Whitfield has successfully completed the trainee programme and become a full member.

A former member of both Wingates and Black Dyke Bands, Matthew has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the UK and Europe, and was part of Black Dyke Band’s 2012 European Championships victory. Now balancing his playing alongside conducting, Matthew is Musical Director of Rivington & Adlington Band, alongside his job as Head of Music at Lowton CofE High School.

Having spent the last three years on AoBBA’s trainee programme, Matthew commented: “I am delighted to have completed my training and be accepted as a full member of the association. I must thank my mentor, Martin Heartfield, who has been a great support throughout the process, along with every member I worked alongside. Their professionalism and expert knowledge has been first class and I highly recommend the trainee scheme to anybody considering making the move into adjudicating.”

AoBBA’s Head of Trainee Programme, Martin Heartfield, added: “Matthew has proved to be an outstanding trainee throughout the programme, and I am delighted for him as he is awarded full membership. Our training programme continues to encourage and develop the future generation of adjudicators and I am very grateful to all the contest organisers who continue to value and support our programme across the country with high quality assignments.”
