Andrew Duncan was born in 1962 and began playing the trombone at primary school going on to play the tuba in his mid-teens. He studied music at Napier University in Edinburgh and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Andrew became the Principal Tuba of the Halle Orchestra in 1984, a position he held for 16 years. He has played with all the major orchestras in the UK as well as with London Brass, Halle Brass and the Brass Band of Battle Creek in the USA. In 2014 Andrew joined the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra as Principal Tuba.

As well as adjudicating at numerous events in the UK, Andrew has worked as an adjudicator in the USA, Switzerland, Denmark and Norway. This has been at major events such as the Swiss Open Championships and the Danish national Finals, as well as at other smaller events and music festivals.
As a composer Andrew has written extensively for brass band, wind band and orchestra. Many of his arrangements and compositions are played and recorded all over the world and his commercial music has been used in adverts, and for television and radio programmes. Andrew’s orchestral arrangements have been played by the BBCSSO, the Halle Orchestra, The CBSO, the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, the Ulster Orchestra and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has had his work recorded at Pinewood Studios and at Abbey Road Studios in London, sometimes conducting the sessions himself. He has a growing portfolio of music with the Audio Network music library which is the main provider of music for Television, Film and other media.
