David Roberts is a widely respected brass band conductor, adjudicator and educator.
Following his early studies on cornet at the Manger Folkehøgskule in Norway, David’s return to the UK saw him claim the title of North of England Solo Champion, prior to him joining the cornet ranks of the world-famous Black Dyke Mills Band in 1990, going on to be a part of the 1995 Grand Slam Winning Band.
David’s rewarding playing experiences led into what is a highly successful career as a conductor, seeing him conduct across the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.
As the musical director of the Rothwell Temperance Band, David’s experience and musical creativity led this band to make an astonishing rise through the sections from Third to Championship Section, claiming six consecutive qualifications from the Yorkshire Area to the National Finals in his first six years at the helm, and it is has now confirmed its place as one of the finest and most respected Yorkshire based brass bands, with a solid focus on local community combined with ambition to develop musical creativity and excellence.
David’s conducting career has seen him claim numerous prestigious titles, both as musical director of Rothwell Temperance Band and as a freelance professional conductor, including the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Championships, the North of England Regional Championships, the Scottish Championships, the Swiss Open, the Senior Cup, the Grand Shield and the All England International Masters.
With further victory and top placings at the Norwegian National Championships, David is also frequently engaged to conduct at various regional championships, Brass in Concert, the British Open and National Finals at The Royal Albert Hall, where he has achieved three consecutive podium places.
