Morten began his musical career as a cornet player at the age of 10 in 1972 with the local school band. He played with Musikkorpset Gjallarhorn from 1978 before becoming a founding member of the Stavanger Brass Band in 1981. As a young player he enjoyed his years as member of both the Norwegian National Youth Wind and the National Youth Brass Band. Studied at the Music Conservatoire in Stavanger for his music teacher degree and had further studies in Band Conducting at the Music Conservatoire in Bergen. Morten has been conducting bands since 1983 and has had a highly successful career in Norwegian banding, winning several major titles with his bands. He has been resident conductor for Stavanger Brass Band, and he founded the Alexander Brass Band back in 1994, a band he now has been conducting for 24 years all together. He has as well enjoyed working with other leading Norwegian bands as Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag and Krohnengen Brass Band. He has been a frequent adjudicator in contests since 1986, and has adjudicated all the major contest in Norway, the Swedish National Brass Band Championship and The European Youth Brass Band Championship. In the UK, Morten has been working with the Welsh Seindorf Beaumaris Band, a partnership highlighted in 2004 when he conducted them in the National Finals in London's Royal Albert Hall, and with Mount Charles Band and Bon Accord Silver Band. Morten worked for the Norwegian Band Federation between 1991 and 2007, he has been senior advisor for Stavanger2008 – European Capital of Culture, General Manager for Bergen National Opera and now enjoying his position as Head of Culture for Sola Municipality near Stavanger.
