Originally from Ireland, Adam moved to England to study Music at the University of Manchester, before being awarded a scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, generously supported by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the Leverhulme Trust. Adam undertook studies in conducting with Mark Heron and Sian Edwards, and since graduating from the Guildhall he has worked regularly as a conductor, being engaged by many of the leading ensembles in the brass and wind movements in the UK and further afield. In 2013 Adam was runner-up in the European Conductor Competition in Oslo winning the prize voted for by the musicians, and later that year accepted an invitation to take up the role as Musical Director with the GUS Band – one of the foremost names in British brass banding. During Adam’s tenure the band won the Midland’s Regional Championship five times consecutively – the first band to achieve this in the region’s history - as well as claiming two All England Masters titles and the Butlin’s Mineworker’s Championship. As well as working as a guest conductor with bands throughout the U.K., Adam has also held positions associate conductor of Jaren Hornmusikkforening, and professional conductor of Ila Brass Band. Adam has worked with several leading youth ensembles, including as assistant conductor to the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, guest conductor with the Ulster Youth Orchestra, and in 2013 Adam led the South African National Youth Wind Orchestra during their Summer course, giving concerts in Pretoria and Johannesburg.
