Born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Colum began playing the violin before being able to learn the cornet at the age of 9. Working through the performance grades and in 2007 became the youngest member in his school's history to achieve grade 8 Cornet.
Since the age of 10, Colum has been playing in Brass Bands, firstly at Ireland Colliery Band in Chesterfield, Riddings Band, Blidworth Welfare Band and most recently, The Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Throughout these years he has learned from some of the finest players and conductors in the country.
As a conductor, Colum was encouraged into this by his school, and from a young age he has been conducting different ensembles.
Since 2013 he has held the position of Musical Director of the award winning Newark & Sherwood Concert Band. He is a member of the Brass Band Conductors Association and has had many successful concert and contest performances, most recently with the Chapeltown Silver Prize Band.
Colum is a qualified Funeral Director, being invited to the National Association of Funeral Directors Examinations Board in 2021. He lives in Edlington with wife Cathryn, son Caelan and Jetson the dog.
