Craig began playing the euphonium in the Wetherby Silver Band aged 11, later graduating from Huddersfield University where he majored in performance and conducting under the tutelage of David Thornton and Philip McCann. Playing euphonium at all levels of brass banding, he received the John Bryan music award upon completion of his degree. Whilst studying for a PGCE at Huddersfield, Craig became MD of the Tewit Youth Band, growing the membership to well over 100 young musicians.
Well known as a conductor and educator across Yorkshire, Craig works with brass bands, wind bands and choirs and regularly plays for and MDs theatre work. As Director of Music at St. John Fisher Catholic High School, he is a passionate advocate for wide ranging youth music making opportunities and created The Brass Brigade, a community project which sees over 250 young people learn a brass instrument every year. His ensembles have competed at the highest levels, performing in the Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall and around the world on tour.
Craig is an experienced mentor, orator and examiner at GCSE and A Level and as adjudicator, Craig carried out a wide range of assignments as a trainee from the National Finals and Youth Brass in Concert to Wychavon and Morley marches. Currently Musical Director of the Wetherby Silver Band and the Harrogate Band he has taken bands to the national finals and many contest successes.
In any spare time, Craig is also trustee for Harrogate International Festivals, the largest arts festival in the North of England and is a trustee for the National Youth Brass Bands of Great Britain.
