Jonathan performs trumpet regularly with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, RTE Concert & Ulster Orchestras. He is currently conductor of 1OB Brass Band.
Brought up in the SA, taught cornet by his father, he had trumpet lessons with Paul Young, becoming Principal Trumpet of the NYOGB. Jonathan studied at the RNCM with John Miller & John Dickinson and became conductor of Besses O’th Barn. In 2005 he received an M.Mus in conducting with James Gourlay - in 2016 he was awarded his Ph.D from the University of Salford.
He has performed the Haydn, Hummel and Bach concertos with the Ulster Orchestra, Camerata Ireland and Nottingham Chamber Orchestras respectively. Jonathan was conductor of Enfield Citadel Band making several recordings, commissioning new works and featuring world class soloists. In education he has been rehearsal conductor for the NYO Ireland, European Youth Brass Band, teaching in Music Services (SELB, Brent, Havering, Berkshire Maestros), SA music schools and Bandmaster & Head of Brass at Pangbourne College.
Jonathan was Director of Music for the SA in Chicago leading after school music programs and founded the Red Shield Brass Band. He has been a panelist for Salford University, NYO of Ireland, European Youth Brass Band, Northern Illinois University; adjudicated at the Scottish Championships, NIBA and US Open Championships.
Jonathan has worked in the production of recordings for SP&S/World of Brass - roles have included producing and editing for bands throughout the UK and Europe.
As an arranger, Jonathan’s music has been performed/recorded by many music groups and soloists across the World - his passion is Classical/Choral transcriptions for brass with several pieces published by Brookwright Music. In 2019 he was part of the development of the 800 DLX Cornet from Getzen and is Director of Getzen Ireland Ltd.
