Jonathan began his brass band career with Newport Borough Band in 1991 at age 11 and went on to appointed principal trombone with the Brighouse and Rastrick band in 1998.
In 1997 Jonathan won a foundation scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music and in 2000 appointed principal trombone with the Remix Ensemble Casa da Musica in Porto, and also enjoyed working as a deputy with BrIghouse, Grimethorpe, YBS, Faireys and Tredegar Bands.
Returning to the UK in 2003, Jonathan is a busy freelance trombone player adjudicator and conductor, and has performed as guest principal trombone with many of the Uk’s finest orchestras including the Philharmonia, English National Opera, Royal Philharmonic and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestras to highlight a few. Jonathan has also performed with Bergan Philharmonic, Malmo Orchestra and on UK tours of Beauty and the Beast and Fame.
Between 2007 and 2015 Jonathan held the position of Principal trombone with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force and lead trombone with the RAF Squadronaires.
Jonathan has recently been engaged as a conductor for sessions with West One Music and Sony EMI he conducted Desford Band on tour and in concert in 2016 as well has holding the chair of first trombone / Euphomium and Assistant MD on the Cameron Mackintosh West End production of Half a Sixpence from June 2016 to September 2017.
Jonathan has adjudicated at the Whit Friday Scout Head contest for the last 4 years and is engaged again for 2018.
