BA Hons, PGCE, Fellow of the RNCM, Professor of Euphonium

As a euphonium soloist, Steven’s career as a professional solo performer continues to break new ground with over 75 solo performances a year following on from the successes he achieved as a member of several of the UK’s leading brass bands. He is also well known and respected by his high profile work in brass pedagogy. He is the Professor of Euphonium the Royal Northern College of Music and also at teaches at several specialist schools across Europe and in Japan. He was given the award of Fellow of the RNCM.
Steven played with the Sun Life Band, Desford Colliery Band, GUS and CSW Glasgow Bands in his UK banding career, achieving the total of four national championship trophies, as well as European trophies, with the Desford Band. Since 1992, he has been Principal Euphonium, with the Brass Band of Battle Creek (USA).
He has made over 120 recordings, many of them winning national and International awards.
Steven has also commissioned in the region of 350 new works many of which are recorded and published.
He was Artistic Director of the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival in South Korea (2013-2019).

As well as his pioneering work in performing and education, Steven brings a wealth of experience as an adjudicator, having adjudicated National Championships in Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and North America, as well as at the British Open, Spring Festival, Regional Championships, National Youth Championships and European Youth Championships.

Steven is passionate about adjudication and has a keen interest in adjudicating systems, as many people will be familiar with.
